Knock John Naval Fort

Thames Estuary Maunsell Forts: Part 1 - Knock John Fort & Grain Tower.

This was a very special boat trip for my Dad's Birthday & we saw some amazing sites! Knock John Fort is a naval fort 9 miles out past the Thames Estuary. It's a huge imposing site in the middle of the ocean & one of the most impressive and remote structures I will ever see. We also passed the sunken SS Richard Montgomery, an American Liberty ship built during World War II. Last on the trip that day was the Grain Tower, which is a 19th century gun tower. I'd still love to visit the inside of that one - you can reach it at low tide. But having seen it at high tide, I certainly don't want to get stuck there!
